Ethan's surgery scheduled

My son is 20 months old and will be going to get a Super Hip 2 surgery done when he turns 2 years old. Not only does he have PFFD, his femur is growing at a 90 degree angle. So they will need to break his leg to straighten it out and then do the Super Hip 2. Dr. Paley did answer all our questions, so we are sure that he's the doctor to see about our son's condition. I guess we are just nervous about his surgery because he's our only child.
It does help reading some of the stories on here to know that people made it through the surgeries. If anybody has any advise regarding after surgery care, I'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eddie

My son just had the super hip in December with Dr. Paley. He is at home doing great and will have his cast off in 10 days. It is a lot of work to care for a child in a spica cast so say yes to all the offers of help from your friends and family. It will help you keep your sanity. You will be amazed at how well your child deals with the surgery and the recovery. I started making a list of all the advice I'd give to another parent but of course I haven't found the time to post it to our blog. Hopefully, I'll get it done soon and post a link here before your sons surgery.

just wondering if you could email your blog site to me (ktjean3@hotmail.com) because i dont sign on here that often. We'll be going to west palm for emily's super hip this august the week she turns two. I'd love to follow your blog and how your son is doing. My husband posts a blog for our emily here is the page timtredwell.blogspot.com check it out if you have time.

I've never thought of having a blog since I don't have much to say. I do keep updates on my facebook. Ethan's surgery is scheduled for May 19th-20th. They will be doing an MRI on the 19th then surgery on the 20th.
I have your email, so I can send you updates if you would like. My wife and I are just planning the trip and what we will be needing to make this possible. Dr. Paley said it would be 2 weeks before they release Ethan after surgery so he can complete therapy. And since the Quantum House is already booked, we have to look for other accomodations. So you need to call Quantum House to book a room immediately since they apprently book quickly.

Commenting to redmom -- I assume your little boy is the redhead Paley was telling us about when we were there last week. My 21 month old daughter is a redhead, we are still getting information in regards to the Superhip and are friends of Ethan. Would love to hear how things went with your little guy and if you have had any of the redhead complications. Being a redhead myself, I am concerned sending my daughter into a life of surgery as I continually have problems with procedures no one else has problems with. If you don't mind, please contact me at jenniferbethscott@hotmail.com. Thank you!

How old is your son when he had the surgery? Did you all have to stay for 2 weeks for therapy for your son?
We will be driving in from Dallas, TX, so we are looking around for a car seat that he will be able to sit in while we drive back.
We are just trying to figure everything out before we head out there like car seat, lodging, driving vs. flying, food, etc.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

After my 2 year old had her super hip surgery, we used an E Z On vest for car rides. Here's the link.

My son's surgery is not scheduled for the 20th of May. We are excited and scared at the same time. Hopefully we can get everything in order so we can be fully prepared during and after his surgery.
Any advise is greatly appreciated about what we need to be prepared for during this time. Quantum House is booked solid, so we are looking into vacation rentals and hotels, even though we will be at the hospital most of the time. Also, since we will be coming from Dallas, TX, is it better to fly over there or drive? Not sure an airline would be able to seat my son since he will be in a spica cast afterwards.
