Hi my name is anna mccallum-reid i'm from auckland, new zealand and i was born with pffd in the right leg i don't auctually know what catogory i fall in to though. i was also born with conjoined fingers on my left hand which only has 3 fingers including the thumb, and had open heart surgury at 10 months old i don't auctually know if its related to the pffd or not.
anyways i grew up with a normal happy childhood did everything any body else could. i used a leg that was straight for about 10 years then i went to america to the schiners hospital in LA and had my foot amputated and was given a leg that had a knee bend, i used it for maybe 3 years and being the age i was i think i just decided to use crutches because they were so much easier, the leg i have is above the knee but i hardly use it.
I would just like to say to parents who have young children with pffd let your child do everything to their own ability they are capable of doing everything everybody else can if not more. I always thought that if i had the choise of being born with half a leg or losing it i think i would defently have chosen to be born with half a leg as i don't have that knowledge of walking propaly with two legs.
one problem i did have wearing a leg was that yep i was teased at school it sucked big time but i think it made me stronger, i still get people today stearing and asking what happened espically kids which i think is great the reaction some kids have when i tell them what happen it great.
to the kids who have it keep smiling, it is fustrating but you are who you are. don't think your any different than anyone else your not [you were just born with shorter limbs] don't let anyone tell you any different.
