As I approached my early 20ies I encountered my first situation with acrotomophilia. My parents had never heard of it and I realized the other day that it should probably be brought up on this site, especially as teens with PFFD use the internet and may meet someone at a much younger age than I did.
SO.....NOTE FOR PARENTS OF PFFD AMPUTEES:
Acrotomophilia is an intense desire for one's partner to be an amputee. Acrotomophiles typically have a sexual desire for amputation as the basis of the attraction. (Yes, much like some men like long legs and women like tight abs....)
The relationships are typically very unhealthy and some people with the condition have stalker like tendancies. When I talk to young amputee women, I encourage them to NEVER post their condition on web sites like myspace and to be aware of this population.
Parents should let their teens know that this group exist so they are not caught off guard by someone with a sudden intense romantic interest. Acrotomophiles also have porn sites, conferences, cruises and sometimes share information among themselves in databases of amputees. Amputee women are often invited to conferences/cruises and given all expense paid trips to them, but are not told the true nature of the conference.
