Help Pain

I need help. I have alot of pain in my lower back and and left leg which is amputeed. I feel like I'm not able to walk on it. I feel very weak. I'm not even able to sleep sometimes. I've been seeing doctors in the south florida area and no one can help, they just suggust me seeing doctor after doctor. So far this year I've seen 6 different doctor's and the only thing I got out of it was a prescription for a pad to put on my back. It does not work. If anybody knows any kind of pain killer, please let me know!!! Thanks

Have your doc send you to a back/nerosurgen. They will try to start with vicoden it did not work for me so we went to oxy-codone not oxycontin you want the stuff you take evry 4 hours it is much cheeper than the oxycontin is high priced i also take valium tell them flexeril for muscle relaxer. what ever they give you I alwyas check it out on the net I am missing most of my left leg and just had my hip fused in 06 and back surgery december 23 08 and then june 30. The main thing to tell them is on the pain scale you are a 8 or 9 and you got to have some relief.
well I hope this will help

I found that my back, hips, and leg hurt less when I'm at a healthy weight. My knee was killing me until I lost 20 lbs. Now it hurts much less. Massage helps me too. Have you tried acupuncture? I have not, but some people swear by it. I acknowledge that there are some pain levels that just NEED conventional pain medicine. But I personally try to avoid that, if at all possible. I hear also that pilates is great because it strengthens your 'core', your abs and your lower back.

Everyone's situation is different, so I'm just going to tell you what has worked well for me. Since I've gotten my weight under control and actually started exercising regularly, I've been able to manage my pain much better.

Like Jen, I prefer to stay away from drugs for pain management. One thing that has been the most helpful for me is doing yoga several times a week. Obviously, I need to modify a lot of poses, but it has helped tremendously!

I don't know what your level of pain is, and you may very well need medicine to help control it, but I do encourage you to try some alternatives.

Good luck!

hey there! I too have a lot of pain these days. I'm going on 42 now and I got hip surgery and an amputation when I was in 4th grade. As the years have gone by I've gone from almost no pain to 'holy cow, what happened?"

I see a pain managment doctor regularly that took an interest in my PFFD and what we can do to slow down my progression. I get an injection in my back once every 8 to 10 months that actually targets the nerve that is causing me pain. It seems that the body mechanics of uneven hips and knees are puling on my low back and hip just enough to constantly aggravate the nerves to them. After a while that small ache builds until I don't want to get up and walk at all. The injections are like a miricle. The day I get them, I'm sore. The next day my pain is reduced by at least 50 to 75%. I still take pain meds, but I'm taking oxycodone every 6 to 8 hours at a fairly low dose instead of oxycontin at much larger doses.

I don't want to dash anyones hopes, but my Dr. is pretty sure that I'll never be completely pain free. I don't even expect anything close. But we can manage it, keep it at bay, and keep me from becoming a drugged up zombie. At the end of the day, I'm ok with that. Just to be clear, I spent many years as a younger man pain free and doing everything that they said I wouldn't be albe to. I played hard, worked hard and proved to myself and the world that I had no limitations. I'm not sure if I spent all my capitol back then and suffer now for it, or if this would have happened anyhow, but I have no regrets. Good luck, and if it helps, you are not alone.
