stats

Whenever I talk to people about my daughter's condition (unilateral PFFD), they ask if I know how many people are affected with this since it is something they have never heard of before. Does anyone have any statistics on the percent of the population that has PFFD or other similar stats? I know I saw them somewhere months ago when we first learned of our daughter's condition, but I can't seem to find them now. Thanks!

I can't help you with actual statistics, but I suspect more people have pffd than realize. Therefore the statistics are lower than they should be. I believe many, many people with a mild form of pffd don't even realize they have it. I am constantly talking to new people who say that one of their legs is about 3/4 inch shorter than the other one.

The most common estimate I have seen is that PFFD occurs in 1 of 50,000 births.

I was told that only 10-15% of those with PFFD have it bilaterally.

I have seen stats stating that PFFD occurs anywhere between 1 in 50,000 to 1 in 100,000 births, with 10-15% of that number being bilateral. I have bilateral and have always joked that I should play the lottery more often with my luck! :)
