Hello,
My daughter, who is 2, is having the super hip surgery by Dr. Paley on January 15th. She is having an MRI in December. Have any of you had any experience with the sedation and the MRI? What can we expect? Also, have any of you had to donate blood for your kid's surgeries? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Maria

Hi Maria. My son had an MRI
Hi Maria. My son had an MRI in May and everything went fine with the sedation. The only problem was the MRI did not give Dr. Paley a clear enough idea of what his hip, etc. looked like and so we had to do an arthrogram (in July) anyway. I don't know if this is a common problem with the MRI's or if my son just happened to get one that wasn't clear. I was upset that he had to be put under twice just to get the results that he was looking for. You might want to ask Dr. Paley how often this happens and if the arthrogram is a more definitive test anyway. The sedation for both tests went fine...except for the nothing to eat or drink after midnight (that was tough). I hope this was helpful and hope that everything goes well...Good Luck.
Blood donation...
Dear Maria,
Our daughter McKenna has had 2 lengthenings and 1 super hip proceedure and has had no need for any blood dontations so far. From what we have been told the processes don't involve alot of blood loss, but to be safe just ask them in advance if they think it would be a good idea. We had our first surgeries back in 1997, and if I remember we were concerened about donating blood, but at the time we were told even though we are the parents our blood would still have to be screened and processed before we could dontate it, so it is a good idea to verify all this before you go in. I really don't think you will have to worry about it though. Keep us posted!!
Sincerely
Chuck, Karla, Dylan & McKenna
Eva's surgery
Maria,
I am wondering how Eva's superhip surgery went. I cannot find your link to send a private message for some reason. Hope it went well.
